Diagnosed with Parkinson's, trying to stay productive as needs evolve

The Person & The Problem

The role:

  • >90% desk-based role with high typing & mouse use

Conditions and areas of difficulty:

  • Parkinson’s diagnosis: reduced strength & dexterity in the dominant hand
  • Physical & mental fatigue; history of sciatica
  • Slower typing, more errors, growing load on the non-dominant hand

The frustration:

  • Standard kit provided with no route to equipment or technology matched to a progressive condition.

What Had Been Tried

Standard equipment and self-devised coping:

  • Standard office equipment throughout
  • Chair at its maximum height, but still too low for him
  • Self-devised coping: steadying one hand with the other to control the mouse
  • Standing for most of the day as sitting had become uncomfortable
